Instructions for the 1st Marown Cubs and Scouts visit to the Isle of Man Observatory on Friday 5 March
Warm clothing is to be worn as the dome is the same temperature as outdoors.
Small torches are recommended when walking from the car park to the front door (found on the right of the observatory), but please do not use them once inside, or if we go outside for viewing.
The lane to the Observatory is hard to find and only wide enough for one vehicle – so please observe the following requests:
1 Car share if possible.
2. Drivers, please be at the observatory by 18:20 to ensure a prompt start.
3. Then remain in the car park until all the other drivers have arrived. This will ensure that the cars are not meeting each other head-on.
4. If the driver is unsure where the observatory is, it is highly recommended that they drive past the entrance lane in daylight.
5. Please visit the following link to make sure that the location of the observatory is known as well as the route – this is an excellent link with a map and Google Street View etc.

8. Please be at the observatory by 20:25 for pickup.
9. Then wait in the car park until all drivers have arrived.
Mr Carl Hough will give talks to cover the astronomy badges for the Cubs and Scouts. We will all be able to look through the observatory’s telescope (clear sky’s allowing).
Hopefully we will have clear skies and a good night of seeing some planets and stars.
Did you know: The Isle of Man has been visited by three of the twelve astronauts that walked on the Moon!
